Takeaway Bag Revival transforms takeaway bag recycling into a community-wide initiative. Leveraging the social network of a university campus in the heart of Shanghai’s Wuyi Road community, participants from all walks of life—spanning generations and professions—join together in co-creation workshops.

 

The project merges environmental sustainability with social care, turning recycled takeaway bags into practical tools and thoughtful communication aids for delivery drivers, a vulnerable yet essential workforce in modern Chinese society. By fostering collective action, the project builds empathy, promotes environmental consciousness, and strengthens the bond between community members and delivery workers, driving progress toward inclusivity and sustainability.

This project was completed under the guidance of Dr. Shu Yuan and is a third-year undergraduate Inclusive Design course project in collaboration with Shanghai Huayang Community & Social Interest Renewal Organization.
